Nearby Towns

Murcia City is a picturesque city with selfgrown middle age structure, by the River Segura. The City is the Capital of the region, with approximately 400,000 inhabitants. The city also contains some new architectural pieces worth a closer look. Santiago Calatrava  is one of the most well-known western architects today. He is both an engineer and architect, as you can see by his works. The walking bridge Manrique is like a jewel over the river Segura, and making a slender and elegantly white contrast, to the heavy stone walls at the river sides.

In the old City, the Cathedral, is the most well known and visited place. But directly opposite, is Murcia's City Hall, constructed by Rafael Moneo, another world class architect. The City Hall is built in local sand stone, and therefore blends together with the historical sites around. The building is built in the style and materials of the palaces, with a variety of different floor heights and window sizes. The building has an outer definite outer wall, with great depth to the real facade behind. There is therefore an expession of publicity and dignity. The lines are modern and simple, which demonstrates, that the building is from a late period.

It takes close to 20 minutes to drive into downtown, exit Ronda Sur or Ronda Norte. If you wish to shop outisde the City carry on the mortorway to IKEA exit and follow signs for Neuva Condeminum

Cartagena is a well known Port that still operates today, the Spnaish Navy docks here as well as cruise liners with many international tourists. Lovely spanish streets and a fortress to behold. There is a large shopping centre just before Cartagena, about 25 minutes to drive on A 30, junction 191. .

Beaches

Mar Menor: 15-20 minutes to drive to "The Small Sea". It's warmer than in the Mediterranean, about 19 degrees Celcius at winter time. Beautiful beaches.

Cal Blanque (Mediterranean): Yellow sand, simple beach with guard, but without toilet and restaurants. Bring your own food. Free parking. Beach is by a nature reserve.

Cabo de Palos: Lovely beach outside La Manga, at the Mediterranean side.

Be aware on windy days, it might be red flag (no swimming) at the Mediterranean beaches. Mar Menor could be a nice alternative!
